We are a MapInfo Reseller in India. We have just been informed by our distributor in India that MapInfo Hardware lock will be replaced with Soft Keycode. The process outlined is as follows: This mean the copies shipped to you will generate a Keycode which will work only on that machine and you need to send the Hardware Id. The customer has to provide all details of where he bought the copy from, the Hardware ID number , his contact details etc. and send in an e-mail to me or fax the same to me.We will then send the same to MapInfo and generate a KEY code which will be applicable only for that Machine and send it back to the customer. Please note that MI Pro is licensed to one PC only. I had the following observations: 1. THIS PROCESS DOES NOT SEEM USER FRIENDLY. 2. DO ALL OF YOU THINK THE CUSTOMER IS GOING TO GIVE US ALL THESE DETAILS? 4. IS THIS NOT AN INVASION ON HIS PRIVACY ? HE IS BUYING A SOFTWARE WHY SHOULD HE GIVE ALL THESE DETAILS ? ISN'T THIS ASKING TOO MUCH ? 5. WHY IS IT REQUIRED TO GIVE A LIST OF WHERE I AM SELLING AND EVERY TIME ? THE WHOLE PROCESS APPEARS DISCOURAGING. I seek opinions from members of this list.
