The primary purpose of this site is to provide the public with ready access to FEMA's GIS maps during disasters. Typical postings to the site will include: * Hurricane tracking maps with wind buffers, based on NOAA marine advisories; * Model outputs of estimated wind damage to residential structures in an affected area; * Remote sensing maps of affected areas; * Maps of federally-declared counties, * And other maps suitable for a national, and even international audience. In addition to the GIS Team, a number of other FEMA offices will contribute maps to this site, including: the Information Coordination Unit, Regional Offices, and Disaster Field Offices. The GIS Team will post all maps in user-friendly .jpg format. The site will also feature a selection of archived GIS Team maps from the current year and prior year, as well as, a brief introduction to GIS, and background about the history of GIS at FEMA. The GIS Team at FEMA anticipates a large audience for its site, particularly during an active disaster and hopes that individuals find the site informative and easy-to-use.
