I had the same question some time ago and was given this simple advice : convert the region to polyline then back to region. In your case, it would be more efficient to create the object as a pline then convert it to a region,
 
Incidentally, I believe that the centroid is attached to the last node created, not the first as you mentionned, but as they are at the same spot, who cares?

There does not seem to be a variant of the Alter Object statement to fix up the position of the centroid of a new region object.
