I do agree with Neil. If, on occasion, somebody posts something worthwhile
reading to the list not absolutely related to MI, nobody should become
annoyed. Just keep polite and do not carry discussions into a battle.
If you compare ArcView-L with MapInfo-L you'll see the difference. There you
have a question and answer pingpong only. I am not sure, but my (possibly
incorrect) impression is that any mail which contains criticism to ESRI
products, may not be posted to the public, will simply be ignored. This
never happens here, and even MapInfo staff does not hesitate to answer
criticism, which is one reason for all the benefit you have from this list.
I actually asked ArcView-L why there isn't any German Gauss-Kruger
projection included in the "German" supplement and criticised this as not
very smart - no answer. (The German supplement includes, however, the
national grid of Brunei !)
I probably have to check the mapinfow.prj for the parameters of
Gauss-Kruger, which includes so many pre-defined projections, a really big
advantage over AV.
So, do not complain too much if somebody is a little off topic. Just it
should not be too much (so far it hasn't.).
I apologize in advance if I have offended any user of ArcView or any citizen
of Brunei.
