I assume you use some MS Windows platform to run sw_mi_import? I guess I had
the same problem and at least SW support Germany wasn't quite able to help.
The problem is that the sw_mi_load utility expects UK country settings. More
precise it wants '.' as a decimal delimiter. With ', ' as a decimal point
the tool creates a wrong SQL insert statement for writing to the
MapInfo_MapCatalog table in the MapInfo schema. In this table there are some
float types (spatialtype, db_x_ll, etc.) which cause the problem.
Change your system settings to use '.' as a decimal point and it should
work.
May I call this a bug?
Let me know whether this helped, please.

Cheers,
Carsten
