In a Mar 22, 1999 article by Patrick Marshal for Federal Computer
Week he rates "Autodesk Inc.'s World 2.0, Caliper Corp.'s
Maptitude 4.0, Environmental Systems Research Institute Inc.'s
ArcView 3.1, Intergraph Corp.'s GeoMedia 2.0 and MapInfo Corp.'s
MapInfo Professional 5.0." This news is a little more than a
month old, but it's another source of online GIS product reviews
that people are always asking about, and the versions reviewed
are current. (Of course, MapInfo is going to leap ahead this June
with the new major release, right?)

I'm not sure that the five-hundredths of a rate means anything
significant though. What it does say is that there really is no
second place and whoever is going to be numero uno can't rest on
their laurels anytime soon.

The next nearest package was Maptitude with a 7.1 while the rest
fell below 6.
