G'day MI-Listers,

Good to be back in the saddle again. I hope that I do not spread any
further viruses, chaos or associated frustrations with this email. The
virus-checker did not detect anything, so here goes.

1. Our new web site is now open for browsing at www.ngis.com.au\bdt . It
has a lot of information about GIS in Vietnam. It also displays our range
of available datasets, plus a number of regional case studies of GIS
applications, MapInfo tips, etc.

2. I would like to hear from any company or individual abouot their
experiences using MapX for the purposes of distributed computing. I have
two prospective clients who each have over sixty remote sites. They want to
be able to download weekly information into a web browser form and then view
some simple thematic maps using the data. Any suggestions, lateral
thoughts, etc.......?

3. I have also provided the MI (former weekly) technical tip sheet for the
shifting of block coverages. I hope that this is of assistance to you,
Gypsy. It is as follows:

ADJUSTING THE POSITION OF A MAP

1. Open the map you want to shift (the source map) and open another map to
be used as a reference source.

2. Click on the Change View Button (the magnifying glass with a Question
Mark).

3. Change the Display In Status Bar to Cursor Location.

4. To determine the distance you want your map to be shifted, move the
cursor to a point on the source map and note the coordinates (X1, Y1).
Next, move the cursor to where you want the point to be moved to and note
the coordinates (X2, Y2). The distance to be shifted can be calculated as
follows:

XDisplacement = X1  X2
YDisplacement = Y1  Y2

5. Export the source table TABLE> EXPORT, Save as Type: MapInfo Interchange
(MIF).

6. Use a text editor to open the resulting MIF file.

7. Add the following line to the MIF file directly after the COORDSYS
ClauSe:

TRANSFORM 1,1, XDisplacement, Ydisplacement

*Substitute the values from step 3 in place of XDisplacement and
YDisplacement.

8. Save the changes you have made to the MIF file in the text editor.

9. Go back into MapInfo.

10. Import the MIF file : TABLE >IMPORT, File Format: MIF
