Mitch, In order to "see through" a thematic layer and view a solid pattern thematic layer beneath it, you have to use the same postal code layer twice in the mapper. In Layer Control, REMOVE the transparent thematic layer and retain the solid fill thematic layer. Next, ADD in the postal code table again and REORDER it so it is positioned above the solid fill thematic layer.
