Sorry to be the bearer of more bad news but I have just learned
that Sol Katz died April 23, 1999 from cancer. You might remember
him as the creator of all those free GIS data translation
utilities: dlg2mif, sdts2mif, etc., from the FTP site at the BLM
center in Denver, and as an outspoken voice on the net (even
though he used only lowercase letters) for making public data
useful to the general public. He was a good guy with a big heart.
We'll miss him.
