I read these emails frequently and think this is one of the best support
groups available. I hope you can help me before I call MapInfo for tech
support.
Is there a limit in the number of objects or object types a that can be
selected for the Objects, Buffer command?
I am trying to creating a 5 Mile buffer around numerous (4000+) region
objects. When too many objects or even certain ones are selected, I get the
following error: An error occurred overlaying the objects. Operation
canceled. Needless to say, this doesn't help me too much.
I have the options set at 12 segment per circle, and I've tried both one
buffer for all objects and one buffer for each object.
I end up having to select 10 or so objects at a time, which creates a lot
of Query tables. After a certain point, MapInfo becomes unstable and
crashes, I think because of the numerous temporary tables created? This
task should only be a couple clicks and keystrokes, but ends up taking
hours.
I'm new to MapBasic, but would it be a relatively simple task to create a
script that selects a subset of these objects, and draws the buffer for me?
(I know this will be the answer)
In case it matters: MapInfo 4.5 on NT4, service pack 3. It's a US map,
with states, counties, zips, and a thematic map for markets. The object
layer is read only so I put the buffer in its own layer.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
