I sent this question around but didn't get what I
was really looking for (specifics, not generalities):
I know there are several approaches to take, but
I'm interested in learning how otehrs have ported a complex
MapBasic application to a web gis application?

I think that the upcoming MapXtreme Java 2.0's
vector java beans on the client end is going to be the way I want to
go long-term, so I'd like to know which technologies to use on both
the server and client side. We'd be learning almost
all of them, so we really have no preference, however we are leaning
towards a Microsoft/NT/IIS 4.0/ASP server and
development tools.
Can Java and DHTML on the client side give as nice
of a UI as desktop apps (multiple documents windows, etc)? Can
FORTRAN DLLs be wrapped into COM objects and used by Microsoft
Transaction server for hard core number crunching for numerical
models?
