I recently had the same problem, the only way I could get around it was to
enter only three
of the rasters images corners (TL, TR, BL).
Why this should make a difference I dont know. But it got around the
problem.

Hello,
I've just tried to register a raster image (JPG) which consists of 9 square
area's.
I know the co-ordinates of the top left corner for each of the 9 squares,
so I registered the image with initially the four corners of the image.
When I pressed "Ok" I got a message stating the points were in a straight
line, and instructing me to enter points that are more spread out.
Starting again I have added the top left co-ordinates of 3 random squares,
but I still keep getting the same message. It doesn't appear to matter
which squares I choose I always get the same message.
Has anybody experienced anything like this, or offer a solution?.
Any help would be most appreciated.
