Hi Alan!
It is true that we (at least some of us) would need more *default*
settings in MapInfo. Setting projection is one of them.
Today this is not possible. However, many settings can be controlled by
using a prepared workspace with command lines, or a textfile with
commands that can be pasted to the MapBasic window and executed.
You man look at these as a kind of macro that does not open any tables,
but only executes some command lines.
The MapBasic window possibilites are poorly documented by MapInfo but
Jacques Paris in Montreal has written an excellent guide to this more or
less hidden interface to MapInfo. Have a look at the "MiniGuide to the
MapBasic Window" on his web site.
