Elliot,
Try this:
Modify the table containing the regions by adding a column (if there are
less than 32000 points max per region INTEGER data type will do)
Then in TABLE, go to UPDATE COLUMN, pick the table with the regions, pick
the column you want to update with the count, In the GET VALUE FROM TABLE
box pick the table containing the point objects. Click the JOIN button and
select the radio button that allows you to specify a geographical join ie
Where object from points table is within object from regions table.
Click OK and correct the column to update selection box which always
(annoyingly) defaults to "add temporary column"
Then in CALCULATE list box select count and click OK.
The new column in your region table should be updated with the number of
objects lying within each region boundary.
Hope this helps,
Jim

>Can anyone tell me whether there is a way to count up the number of point
objects from one table that are contained within certain regions in another
layer. I have a table of points which are particle positions from the
output of a model. I also have a grid which makes up many rectangular
regions over the area. I want to count the number of particles contained
within each grid section so that I can thematically map the result. I
could do this by changing my model so that it does the calculation before
outputing the point positions but this may take a lot of time and I was
wondering if there is an easier way via mapinfo.

differing lon and lat increments so that the mapinfo grid can each time
match the grid from my model. I can't find a way to do this either as the
gridmaker always keeps the grid spacing the same in x and y.
