I use AutoCAD Map to create geometry for MapInfo. I manually edit the
projection in the MIF file created by AutoCAD because AutoCAD seems to
write a lat/lon projection header regardless of the projection that you
have set. I would also warn you against upgrading to AutoCAD Map 2000
because installing the Windows (both 95 & NT) plotter driver for HP
plotters that ships with AutoCAD 2000 seems to degrade the quality of
plotting from other programs, noteably MapInfo.

Otherwise AutoCAD Map is a good complement to MapInfo. I use MapInfo's DXF
in more often than AutoCAD's MIF out when transfering data from Map to
MapInfo, but I've written some MapBasic code to help transfer attribute
data. If you're having trouble getting MapInfo to read Map created MIF
files, try going the DXF route.
