This is sort of an AD to see if anybody is interested in noise modelling
and could use some tools that I have developed, but is more of a broadcast
to see if anybody may be working in this obscure area and need a hand.

I have recently developed some tools to intgrate Mapinfo with the FAA's
Integrated Noise Model. At present they are mainly hack tools specific to
the airports that they were developed for (Adelaide, Coolangatta and
Parafield), but there is a basis for easy adaption to other locations. Is
anyone interested?

The tools include:

Generation of the binary 3CD file around the airport from a terrain model
in MapInfo, even if it exists somewhere else in the world other than the US
(strangely enough, this matters).

Calculation of the x and y distances from a reference point for runway ends
or naviagation points

Generation of flight paths in real world coordinates from the trk_segs.dbf
database in INM, without going through DXF and retaining the flight path
identifier in the database

Generation of the noise contours in real-world coordinates from the
contours.dbf in INM so that you can overlay them onto other data.

These were all bundled with an Access program that created INM input files
from numbers of aircraft going to different destinations, runway usage for
different categories of aircraft, night-time/ daytime usage and rules for
flight path allocation based on destination. The program also
automatically ran the INM model and then generated the contours after the
modfel was run and produced a bitmap of the result. At one stage, we even
had it working over the web so that you could input your data and run the
model on our server over the web, but sometimes you can try to be just too
tricky for your own good.

Anyway, Is anybody interested in these sorts of tools? I am not really in
the industry and chances are they will not further developed unless htere
is some interest elsewhere. I now know more about airports and flight
paths used etc. than any soil scientist should. Perhaps it could be put to
use somewhere else (preferably at an airport near some ski fields?).

Robert.
