You guys at FOMI are something else. Isn't there someone in Budapest that knows
something about mathematical cartography/geodesy? Can't that big organization
of yours cough up some money and actually BUY a book or something? Every so
many months one of you characters at FOMI are asking for FREE something else for
somewhere else in the world that is a total mystery to you guys. It is my
impresstion that Dr. Mihaly, your Director knows about this stuff. Why don't
you ask the boss FIRST before you go public with these continuing requests for
free help?
Read a book you guys, ask and talk around the office. FOMI is becoming infamous
as the beggar for free information on the internet. Do you guys publish
anything for free?
FYI,
Pakistan uses the Lambert Conical Orthomorphic Projection, (British Definition)
where the Latitude at Origin and the Scale Factor at Origin is specified. These
are secant Lambert projections that have two standard parallels that are not
explicity listed - the British way. India Zone I and IIA are used in Pakistan
for the original 1:63,360 series. Note that metrication to 1:50,000 scale
started in 1975. This is on the Indian Datum of 1916 referenced to the Everest
1830 ellipsoid. The Datum origin is at Kalianpur Hill.
Buy a book and read it, you guys!
If you can't afford that, try getting some of the cartography students from
Eotovos University to come by and lecture your staff!
In the absence of any of that, try reading my column in "Photogrammetric
Engineering and Remote Sensing." Some past columns can be downloaded (for FREE)
at the Society's website under the topic of Grids and Datums at:
http://www.asprs.org/resources.html
Who knows? Maybe you will find a country to do your FOMI thing that I have
already written on and put into the Public Domain ...
Good luck.
Buy a book. :-)
