While we do not build to many full blown applications with MapBasic we certainly find it to be an invaluable tool to automate some of our processes in MapInfo.
For instance we have a little application to help us install a new DCDB dataset every 3 months. It does things like batch import of mif files and creates additional fields etc - all with a few mouse clicks.
Another aplication we have built accesses the Hansen database via ODBC, grabbs a snap shot of the Service Request data and geocods it against our DCDB. We can then produce various maps detailing how well our contractors (Water and Drainage) are performing.
Another application uses DDE to comunicate with our corporate database (LOGIS) to extract Owner/Occupier names to plot against parcels.
We also have developed numerous macro tpe applications, eg enhanced find command etc.
There are a lot of Local Govternment MapBasic Users around NZ who are more advanced than I...
