Dear Nigel,

Thanks for your comments ! I think you will find below a few good tips on oursoftware to better meet your needs.
MetaManager will easily integrate any metadata key or value quite efficiently. You can manually add keys and values (that you can define yourself) by using the add a key (CTRL-Q) and add a value (CTRL-A) menu. This method will give you the flexibility you need to make your own metadata structure, if you wish to. However, since the FGDC is such an important standard (and pretty much the only one used worldwide !) for Metadata, we have also included with the application a metadata export sample (Sample Metadata file.met) that is located in the root directory where you have installed MetaManager. You can import this sample into an existing MapInfo table (just ensure it does not contains any metadata) and you will get a standard FGDC metadata structure. Then you need to change the values of the keys to adjust it for the table you are working with and then save and you're there ! Note that you can then export any metadata structure to a .met file that you can then apply to other tables. This is the best way to apply a metadata standard to multiple tables efficiently.

If you also want to include geographic characteristics of your data or other predefined keys/values you can add them to your metadata (after you have imported the met file). Every metadata value that you see in the tree will then be saved as part of the table's metadata. Your metadata reports will also display all of the keys-values contained in your tree.

Regarding metadata on the web, we are currently looking at making MapInfo metadata available through web applications that are using MapInfo software (MapX, MapXSite, MapXTreme) for some of our clients. Let me know if you are interested in finding more about this !

Thanks for your interest !

Subject: Comments on MetaManager

Dear Danny Bouchard,

Just a couple comments for feedback on Metamanager.  I'm finding it very useful to use, but it still has not been quite what the GIS team here at PICCED has been searching for.  What I really like about the program is its ability to import bounding coordinates directly into the mapinfo table.  The area in which Meta Manager is lacking is its ability to meet the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) Standards for Data sharing.  For example, the FGDC requires info like this, amongst more information to be included with the geographic data:

Is there a way to program Meta Manager so that you can set up a customizable template that can be used to input other info to meet different federal standards and have Meta Manager import that info into the tabular file along with the geographic data that it already gathers?

The reason that I ask is because we are currently looking into programs such as Map Extreme so that we can put data on the web and allow for interactive mapping via the internet.  Before we can start the process, we must first find a way that can effectively help us organize our metadata.

Thanks,
Nigel Hall
