I note in the last week we had a couple of spams, these however were
somewhat dwarfed by the spate of rage which spawned nearly 18 replies.

Hey Guy's give Bill a rest, there are two secrets with Spam ,firstly as it
is easy to identify, the delete button (or 'Backspace' on the new macs now
they've done away with the delete button /pet peave ) is one of the
best solutions, but those who don't feel satisfied until they have hit
someone hard on these occaisions may like to consider this scam that I have
succesfully used in the past

In your e-mail there is header info ( blah blah blah button in Eudora) by
which you can trace the route the virtual cockroach ran to infest you, use
a web site like http://www.samspade.com where you can submit the ip
addresses found in the mail. usualy the earliest address you can find is
the hole in the internet the spammer found, it's a bit like the holes God
left in time.... cv Terry and the Time Bandits. These holes are usually on
the server of some poor new start up company in an obscure part of Poland
( sorry Polish listers... I guess they could also be in Wales too) that is
trying to develop an internet business. Anyway this server is used as a
mule by the cockroach ... oops sorry I mean spammer to get his (or her )
rubbish to your door. Although you will rarely find the address or details
of the spammer Sam Spade will give you an e-mail address for the server
administrator who is likely to welcome a courteous letter explaining that
his server had been violated, with a copy of the mail with header, also if
the spammer uses one of the free hotmail or yahoo addresses it is worth
e-mailing the provider , eg for yahoo sourced spam mail to:
[EMAIL PROTECTED], they have had to become fairly ruthless with this misuse
otherwise they will find that most servers will close up to their mail and
put them out of business.

Anyway end of rant, if you want to know more mail me and I'll explain, i
think I have written a more detailed faq on this somewhere I pulled off the
web once.

Bill,
I am of course now interested with the cockroaches, had Mapinfo been
available would you have created a spatial database of your cockroaches,
and after running some simple demographics to identify the clean healthy
one who would make a good pie you may have been able to redistrict the
remainder to a house three blocks away ,

finally I promise I will not respond to any more re-mails on spamming for
at least 6 months or when more than 30 people duplicate the spam by
responding to the list, does anybody else want to join me in this pledge

:-)

Adrian
