uh oh... I think you'll have to manually unistall the existing
copy of MapInfo. The method is a bit draconian, but it did the
job. When I got this error, I just deleted all files in the
MapInfo directory, and then I decided to go through the registry
eliminating all keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE that refer to MapInfo.
I don't know that you have to do this, but I felt better knowing
the slate was clean. You might also want to clean out
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT to get rid of MapInfo file types (but it's not
absolutely necessary, if you plan to install mapinfo), but DO NOT
mess with the CLSID keys unless you want to live in interesting
times. There may be a few settings in HKEY_USERS that refer to
MapInfo files, but there's nothing critical here in terms of
MapInfo. You don't need to worry about HKEY_CURRENT_* keys
because they are only pointers into the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and
HKEY_USERS keys.
