If you use ArcView, there is an extension which allows you to transform =
and move features visually.  My approach is to drag Alaska and Hawaii to =
where Mexico would normally be so that everything fits on the map.  The =
extension is called Register and Transform and can be downloaded from =
the ESRI web site at http://www.esri.com

Atlas GIS actually comes packaged with State and County geography files =
where AL and HI have already been moved just west of CA

Subject: Continential USA maps, AK & HI

I need to make a USA map, but of course AK and HI are rather a long ways from the continental portion. It would be convenient to have a map window with the continental part (I need counties and states on the map) with an inset of AK and HI. Any ideas about how to do this? I do not need a real long/lat reference and any projection that portrays thematic maps Ok is fine, it won't be changed around.

Any ideas about how this caw can this be done?
