Sorry for jumping in so late. I was at a conference. I agree that specialized
training for a client is very important. We provide training to MapInfo users. In
our training we ask that if users want to use their data, that we will use it. We
find that when users get training with their data, they learn better and quicker as
the data is of interest to them. We also tailor the training to their application,
such as telecom, geological mapping, environmental mapping, etc. Taking a low-cost
training program at a technical college is OK, but the training usually is very
generic, so you can have retail people sitting beside geologists for example, and it
is hard to spend time discussing geological problems which the retail people do not
care about or understand, and vice versa. That's my 2 cents worth.

Ditto.. I think that training on a GIS system is so specific to the end
use that generalized training is really only good for a brief introduction.
General concepts can be taught in a training class, but real "how do I
make it work FOR ME" is a one on one situation.
