Based on a quick code search:

It does not appear that anyone other that Leslie and I (and the
ogcserver code) are using Mapnik Featuresets via Python.
I'd like to consider reworking them into proper python lists as
proposed here: https://trac.mapnik.org/ticket/280 but curious how much
existing code out there might break.
Seems like not much, but let me know.
