Sorry to hear about the DLL hell.
I've only installed once on WinXp and ran into that same problem which
was only solved by putting the mapnik folder in the user's path rather
than the system path. So, since it sounds like you've done that I'm
not sure what else to offer.
As far as Python 26, I doubt many have tried mapnik-python yet. If you
get mapnik working with 26 that would be great to know about.
