Take in mind that the osm.xml has been geared for use with a postgres db created by osm2pgsql. I think it may not work for some features if you use the OSM plugin and a .osm file, because of differing fields. General question: Does the OSM plugin handle the layer->z_order conversion? > Does importing data work for the whole world file that openstreetmap.org > uses? Yes, but it may take a very long time, depending on your hardware and postgresql tweaking. > Some question came up when using several map files, what data do i actually > need? At the moment i download planet-090408, it is 5.7 Gigabytes. There are excerpts online at: http://downloads.cloudmade.com/ http://download.geofabrik.de/osm/ If you only need limited coverage (country or continent), you could try these. > I think i'll also need all the small PNGs that represent special symbols, is > there a tar file with most/all necessary ones available somewhere? You probably need the shorelines shapefiles: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Mapnik#World_Boundaries There's also the OSM-specific wiki, irc, mailing lists, in case you have more questions. -- Lennard _______________________________________________ Mapnik-users mailing list [email protected] https://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/mapnik-users
