Hey Iván, Yes, good suggestion. Joseph's problem however was that Mapnik was built 32 bit and the apple installed Apache runs 64 bit on Mac 10.5, just as Jon mentioned based on the 'mach-o, but wrong architecture' error.
He is helping beta test some 64 bit (universal) Mac binaries I'm building and I've now sent him a new installer that works and bypasses this error. Building mod_tile is not super easy on Mac (and would also need to be build 64 bit), so I'm planning on trying to include it as a universal binary soon. I've not built or used mod_tile since all the cool GeoFabrik updates, so I'm looking forward to seeing those in action.
