That did not work. But I found that if I temporarily hid the boost directory
in /usr/local/include, it then finds the boost directory in /usr/include.

I'm not getting the dependency error with boost under /usr.  My build of
boost under /usr/local does have regex, iostreams and thread files, but I
had some errors compiling it.  That must be the root of my problem.
