My situation is short, single segment roads, that need to be labelled. This is not urgent, so I have time to play. I had hoped to do this with minimal modifications to osm.xml. Now I think I will rip the osm.xml file to the bones, and maybe have a look at point placement instead of line. Would there be any way to have the text fall back to point placement when the line placement fails?
