I'm fairly new to Mapnik but have been having fun recently making web maps of Canada. One problem I have is that when labelling lakes, the text is packed too tightly and when two labels are on roughly the same latitude, it can sometime appear that the names merge into one - really misleading! In TextSymbolizer I thought "min_distance" would do the trick but it doesn't seem to work. Can anyone help?
