Hi Bjørn, The base functionality to enable attribute-based variable replacement (aka dynamic symbolizers) was recently added by Artem to Mapnik trunk. Text and ShieldSymbolizer's support not only attribute replacement but various expressions within the data field 'name' parameter. See for all the details: http://mapnik.org/news/2009/dec/08/future_mapnik2/ File paths in the PointSymbolizer also support attribute replacement, but that is all at this point. We need to discuss how to support exposing more places without incurring to much of a performance penalty.
