Hi! Is 'mapnik_dir' or the path to the shapefile set up correctly
according to your system? I think it could be a problem of mapnik not
finding the correct directories.
I have not seen before the link you mentioned, so I'll take a look at
it.

Further more, I want to learn some idea about how to write a plugin

offer mapnik with new data source or directly render custom data by
mapnik.
