Ya, clipping & copying is the easiest way around it :) For the raster
plugins you can overwrite the bbox to position the same tile in 2x places.

I'd like to see mapnik support it properly, but I think it probably should
leverage the Geography support in postgis, and would likely require a
geography/geometry split for processing/filtering/etc.
