Doug Cutting commented on MAPREDUCE-1126:
-----------------------------------------

> Also deprecating the {get, set}MapOutput{Key,Value}Class methods seems
> unnecessary.

The preferred style is to keep setters and getters that are not directly used
by the framework to library code. These methods are specific to certain
serialization systems, mostly Writable. The properties these methods set are
no longer read by the framework itself, but only by library code. Thus their
setters also belong in library code, not in Job.

> shuffle should use serialization to get comparator

> Currently the key comparator is defined as a Java class. Instead we should
> use the Serialization API to create key comparators. This would permit,
> e.g., Avro-based comparators to be used, permitting efficient sorting of
> complex data types without having to write a RawComparator in Java.
