you say that you are running 0.20.10.0.1004192217,

If you look HADOOP-4012, the patch only went in in hadoop 0.21--so you're
probably running an old version than the patch.
If you want to generate a unit test against current code, that would be very
helpful (as per Chris') comment.
If it fails, then at least it's clear what needs to be fixed.
