The deadlock in hsqldb seems to have been a known issue with 1.8.0.7. Upgrading
hsqldb to 2.0.0 seems to solve the issue. I grepped and nobody else is using
hsqldb, so we should be fine with updating this instance of it.
I have also moved the test from ant to the maven build.
Can someone please review and commit this?
