Thanks for all the work [~zxu], [~bcwalrus], and [~kasha] . This seems to me
like a backward incompatible issue and we should mark it as such. e.g. if I
have a file with the BOM, a wordcount before this patch would yield a different
count than after this patch. Please let me know if you disagree.
