Maybe you can get around with doing just style updates without
deleting old tiles. This would require you to do manual /dirtying of
interesting areas, but may still be nicer during development. (The
hikebikemap purely relies on /dirty for now.)

ACK. I also restart renderd every once in a while as I do improvements
to my style.
