sounds serious and very similar to this issue describing a corrupted database after running pg_upgrade http://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/20110408pg_upgrade_fix I added this information to the jira ticket. In case we are unfortunate and need to do a fresh import, please use UTF-8 as encoding this time.
