Thanks for the confirmation, Steve. I think it would be helpful for
future developers if somebody at MapServer would mention this in the
relevant online documentation. It would have saved me some time and
frustration. The online documentation is usually great from my
experience so far, except in this one instance.

Please feel free to add a comment about this at the bottom of the
relevant docs page. On the next round of docs updates the maintainer
should catch your comment and update the text of the docs accordingly,
and in the meantime your comment in the docs will help other users who
may run into the same thing as you.
