Howard, Is it possible we have a bad combination of libraries or something in our mapserv compile? it's like it doesn't understand the datastring coming out of mapserver. In the error message from gdal, it's prepending the filesystem path. So instead of it starting with SDE: it starts with /filepath/SDE:
