Thanks David , it´s all I need to know.
We are using tilecache so performance is not an issue after
generating the tiles.

Assuming that MapServer can use an image this large, if you want to serve up
maps with good performance, you will likely want to pre-process the data.
(e.g. create smaller tiles, create overviews, etc.)
I am pretty sure that a local agency here was serving a WMS based on a 20gb ECW
file using MapServer.

We are planning to buy a huge raster file (9 GB) but before buying
it we would need to know if mapserver can deal with this kind of images ( that
large).
I was reading the mapserver documentation but I couldn't find anything
regarding this.
Is there any limitation with the image size or just those given by the
image format ( for example the 4GB Geotiff limit)?
