Todd,

You have to set the gap to a negative number to keep the symbol perpendicular to the edge.

GAP -20

Hello list,

A little problem, I hope someone can help.

Using Mapserver 5.2 - I am attempting to use a character symbol: “|” as a STYLE for the outline of a polygon class. However, I cannot get the symbol to remain perpendicular to the polygon boundaries ie: the symbol is always vertical. Can this be done or should I be using a vector or point symbol somehow?

/ Symbol file: /

SYMBOL

  NAME "rawmat"

  TYPE truetype

  FONT arial

  CHARACTER "|"

GAP 20 # distance between symbols

END

/ Mapfile /

CLASS

            NAME 'Extraction Areas'

            STYLE

                        OUTLINECOLOR 0 0 0

                        WIDTH 1

                        ANTIALIAS TRUE

            END #STYLE

            STYLE

                        SYMBOL 'rawmat'

                        OUTLINECOLOR 0 0 0

                        SIZE 5

                        ANTIALIAS TRUE

            END #STYLE

END #CLASS

Regards

Todd
