Hi, It is not possible because Mapserver cannot read OSM format. Importing data first into PostGIS with osm2pgsql is the most flexible way but you can also try how far you can get with daily OSM shapefile excerpts which can be downloaded from Geofabrik or Cloudmade. I am also rather sure that direct rendering from OSM xml format if it were possible would be slow because format does not support indexing in any way. I have been thinking that perhaps pushing OSM data into SpatiaLite database would be a good solution for those who do not want to install PostGIS. Such a converter does not exist at a moment, though.
