I looked at the same request using DEBUG and can see that the process that is used to query the Oracle Spatial data is completely different. I'm suspecting these are the single-pass query changes that were made in 5.6 for WFS. I need to find out if there is now code changes that need to be made in PHP MapScript or if this is indeed a 5.6 defect.
