Ok, I seem to have found it in the archives: "You need to set a SYMBOLSCALE at the layer level. That's the scale denominator (e.g. 100000) at which a label SIZE will be equal to what you set in the mapfile. As you move away from that value
the labels will get larger or smaller. " Indeed I've put SYMBOLSCALE 1000 in the layer object and SIZE 6 in the LABEL object, and now the labels stay the same size when measured in map units. All I have to find out is the relation between SYMBOLSCALE SIZE and the map units. Thank for help.
