Martin, Only some benchmarks could tell us for sure, but I don't imagine that option 1 would be that much slower than option 2, if it's slower at all. Once the text has been stroked in option 2, you cannot change its style or size any more. OTOH, with #1 you keep all that flexibility. Personally I'd go with #1 unless you can verify with some tests that #2 is really faster, and if that's the case we'd like to hear back from you and find out more.
