Aaron, You might want to try: gdalinfo -mm /home/cache/2012021913-2012022013.tif This will force actual reading of the imagery blocks to compute a min/max for each band and will help determine if there is any problem with the imagery. I don't really understand your overall process well, but I am suspicious there might be an issue where whatever is writing the .tif file is not quite finished flushing it out before you are trying to read it with mapserver. The error is what I might expect from reading an unflushed TIFF file.
