Luca, Note that some of Chris' problems were specific to the GDAL implementation of the file formats at that time. But nevertheless, as Howard suggests, for MapServer purposes, if you can spare the space a properly tiled TIFF with overviews will give better render speed than the various wavelet compressed formats.
