Different browsers ? Different settings for image display ? 
Can you do something like a checksum on the different images and make sure they 
are the same ? That would either point to or exclude an MSS issue.

I've set up a network link which works fine for me, and a couple of other 
people I asked to test it - transparency is perfect, and you can see my 
polygons etc sitting nicely over the Google background.
 
Unfortunately when the end user tests it, he gets the white background. Still 
stumped as to why it works for some of us but not everyone - let me know if you 
find anything out :)

without white background?
My WMS request includes TRANSPARENT=true.
